Local business leader Tom Kindred enters

St. Lucie Tax Collector race

Fort Pierce, February 22 – Fort Pierce businessman Tom Kindred announced today that he is entering the race for St. Lucie County Tax Collector.

A lifelong St. Lucie County resident, Kindred, 48,  was the first professional manager for the highly regarded Fort Pierce Main Street organization and founder of the Save the Theater group that led to the restoration of the historic Sunrise Theater.

“Throughout my career, I have focused on providing world class service to my customers and my community,” said Kindred.   “Bob Davis and his staff have led the tax collector’s office with a true commitment to service and efficiency that, if elected, I intend to continue to foster and expand upon,” he added.

Currently employed with CVS Caremark, Kindred managed Sunrise Tractor for 18 years, was the owner/operator of Boomers Bar-B- Q restaurant and is a certified adjunct professor at Indian River State College (IRSC).  In 2010, Kindred was named the IRSC Business Department’s Adjunct Professor of the Year.  He teaches classes in all aspects of business – customer service, human resources management, sales, accounting and marketing.

“The responsibilities of the tax collectors office are diverse, demanding and critical to the operation of our local governments,” said Kindred.  “From customer service to data management to human resources, it is vital that the county tax collector have solid business management experience.  Even though the race may be political, the job demands a hands-on understanding of and commitment to good business practices,” he said.

Kindred graduated from the University of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in communications and is currently an MBA candidate at Strayer University.  He has been a member of the boards of directors of the St. Lucie County Chamber of Commerce, the St. Lucie County Farm Bureau and the St. Lucie County Agricultural Extension Agency.

Kindred and his wife Mary Koblegard Kindred have two children, ages 13 and 18.   The family lives on Stately Oaks Street in Fort Pierce.  Kindred’s father was the county administrator for St. Lucie County from 1993 to 1996.
